A Couple of Doves: A Product Review

I love the Dove Company mainly for their positive campaigns encouraging women to embrace their differences: size, shape, color, creed...we're all women & we're all pretty darn amazing! (#SpeakBeautiful) I was thrilled to receive a complimentary set of Dove Nutritive Solutions Intensive Repair Shampoo & Conditioner from Walmart. All thoughts & opinions are authentic & truly my own.

I have thick hair but a no-fuss, low maintenance demeanor when it comes to hair care.  I want to be able to wash & condition my hair in the shower, air dry & get going.  The Dove Intensive Repair combination works great for my needs.  The shampoo lathers great & effectively cleans my hair.  The conditioner glides on smoothly & instantly de-tangles and softens it. The soft texture is maintained until I wash my hair again. I think it's also important to note that these products are budget friendly, usually around $5.00 a bottle for both the shampoo & the conditioner separately.  Without question, I will continue to use these products for my hair hygiene routine.  Give then a try also!

Congratulations to the Commissioner of Ecology!

My Lil' Baby--my 5th Grader--made his bid for Commissioner of Ecology for his school! He's a feisty one for sure and I'm super, super proud of him! He ran unopposed which means he automatically gets the position, but the school can rest assured he's going to work hard to represent the position to the best of his ability.
He has so many great ideas and the support of the Staff (I've already been approached by several of the teachers) as well as his Big Brother, & without a doubt, his parents (that would be me & the Huz).  Long live Ecology!

Campaign Poster #2: Pac Man theme.  My personal favorite.
Campaign Poster #3: Super Mario. My Lil' Guy's favorite.
I'm always proud of my boys & always, always, thankful for the precious memories we're making every single day! ♥

Never Too Much Manatee!

The gentle & beautiful Manatee are thriving & seemingly increasing in numbers. But they still face many dangers to their population.  Conservation and constant awareness of these endangered creatures is still an every day issue. The good news is there are some positive stories of Manatee survival.  Here's one heartwarming story of Annie and her calf and the heroic efforts that helped save them both.

Manatee Artwork
My 10-year-old was assigned "Recycled Art" as a project for the school Art Fair.  He lovingly decided to create a tribute to his beloved Stuffed Animal "Puffy".

The materials consisted of Ben & Jerry's containers (they're an environmentally conscious company so I'm sure they'll be glad to know at least two of their containers will never reach a landfill), toilet paper rolls, cardboard, foam, plastic bags, watch batteries (for the eyes) and aluminum foil.
Starting to look like an airplane.
Awww, Puffy's "brother" is starting to take shape!
The eyes are the windows to the soul. ☺
Welcome to the world, Puffy Foil!!!
We love Manatees! And if there ever was some magic than can turn "toys" to living things (like Toy Story), I'm pretty sure Puffy would let everyone know how thankful he is for all the love he receives every day. ♥

How to Spot a Liar

Trust is often hard to find & hard to give. And like many people, I find myself wondering if there is a scientific way to tell if someone is telling the truth & whether or not it's worth giving someone the benefit of the doubt.  Here is one study/examination and possible ways/suggestions to "spot a liar". Source: NBC News
Statistics about Lying:
  • More than 80% of women admit to occasionally telling....harmless half-truths
  • 31% of people admit to lying on their resumes.
  • 13% of patients lie to their doctors.
  • 32% "stretch the truth" when giving their doctor personal information.
  • Nearly 50% lied about following their doctor's treatment plan
  • More than 30% lied about their diet & exercise regimens
  • 60% of people lie at least once during a 10-min conversation & on average tell two to three lies.
  • On average, men tell six lies per day to their partner, boss &/or work colleagues. Women, three.
  • The most common lie told by both sexes was: 'Nothing's wong. I'm fine.'
So, here we go. How does one spot a liar?
Listen to Verbal Context & Content
A liar will
  • often use your words when answering a question.
  • often speak without using contractions.
  • often avoid "lying" by making indirect statements with implied meaning.
  • often speak more than is necessary to try & become more convincing.
  • often leave out pronouns & inflection when answering a question.
  • often garble, muddle, or stammer throughout a sentence.
Study the Body Language
  • Someone lying will often have a stiff physical appearance.
  • Touching one's face, throat or mouth can indicate deception.
  • Will likely avoid eye contact.
  • Unlikely to touch own chest/heart.
Note Emotional Gestures & Contradictions
Someone may be lying:
  • If they display emotion long after being asked a question. Too much emotion for too long of a time. Show emotion & then abruptly stop.
  • If there is a time gap between a person showing emotion & verbally responding to a question.
  • If there is a contradiction between the sentiment of the subjects response & the emotions they are displaying.
  • If there emotion is limited to their mouth instead of their whole face--as in a fake smile.
Interactions and Reactions
  • A guilty person will often get defensive
  • A liar will likely turn their head or body away from the person accusing them.
  • A liar will often place an object between themselves and their accuser.
Look Closely at Microexpressions
  •  Microexpressions appear & disappear off the face in a fraction of a second. They occur so quickly that most people don't even notice them.
  • A microexpression is caused by involuntary movements in facial muscles. Most people cannot control these involuntary muscles which are affected by their emotions.
  • Grouped into seven universal emotions: anger, distrust, fear, sadness, happiness, surprise, & contempt.
Study the Eyes
  • Up & left, visually constructed images
  • Up & right, visually remembered images
  • To the left, auditory constructed
  • To the right, auditory remembered
  • Down & left, feeling/kinesthetic
  • Down & right, internal dialog
And last but certainly not least:
Steps to Catching a Liar
Listen, watch, detect, recognize, study & understand. Seems simple enough right?

Additional Source: How To Spot a Liar

The bottom line is people lie every day. Sometimes, it's to spare someone's feelings or just a better choice in judgement. And other times, a lie is completely negative and can hurt someone in more ways than one. In keeping with the idea of spreading positivity into the world, conduct relationships with an open mind, desiring to trust, but when all is said & done, never ignore your instincts and proceed with caution.

As always, may you all be bathed in peace☮ & love💓.

Things Villains Do For Fun...

Most of the time, these amazing hashtags pop up on social media that are thought provoking & very often awareness-raising.  But then other times, they're just friggin' funny.  One such hashtag is: #ThingsVillainsDoForFun. I followed the hashtag on Twitter & here are some of the humorous/most villainous ones I caught:

Stereotypes are Meant to Be Broken!

When you hear the term "violinist" or think of the violin, who/what do you picture? Amazing music is amazing music & always worth sharing!

Learn more about musician extraordinaires, Kevin Sylvester & Wilner Baptiste in the article With 'Stereotypes' A Duo Raised on Hip-Hop and Classical Has it Both Ways.

Keep an open mind.  It's natural to have an initial reaction, but always know that not everything is as it seems.  Life is surprising & meant to have all kinds of exceptions.  Stereotypes (just like some rules) are meant to be broken. ☺

Save the Vaquita from Extinction!

It's Endangered Species Day & it's only fitting that attention should be given to the highly endangered Vaquita Porpoise. Vaquita Information:
  • Smallest porpoise (family that includes dolphins & whales) in the world.
  • At the time of this video, there was about 100 known members of the species left. As of this week, scientists are reporting around 60 surviving members. Source: Gizmodo
  • One of the most endangered species in the entire world.
  • Found in the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico
  • Unintentionally get trapped in fishermen nets
  • Mammals, & must come to the surface for air, so they drown while held captive by these nets. 😢
  •  Shy, elusive & understudied mammals.
  • If conservation efforts aren't successful, these beautiful creatures will become extinct in the near future. ☹️
Reportedly, only 60 now.

Awareness matters.
